Potty training is a huge step for parents and requires a lot of patience. Time to start this training varies and not same for all kids. Most kids will show interest when they are 2 years old while some won’t be ready even up to 3. There is no need to rush your kid and if you decide to start potty training too early before your kid is ready it might take even more time and patience before it works.
How to know is your child ready to learn? If your child is able to understand you properly and follow some simple instructions you give then it is one good reasont to start. Beside that your child must be able to either tell you or show with some expression that needs to go. There are also other signs that show your child is ready and one of them is when you see your child staying dry more than two hours a day, pulling pants down or complaining about dirty diaper. If you noticed all these signs, then your child is definitely ready for potty training.
The most important thing is not to lose patience and even if the child refuses after some number of repeating procedure you will notice change. Try to make situation interesting and fun for your child and make all look as a game. How to start with this training? Simple. Prepare potty chair in the bathroom and ask the child to sit. You can do that keeping diaper on or removing it, whatever you see makes child more comfortable. If a child doesn’t understand what is potty chair for, you can put the dirty diaper inside to help child understand the purpose of that potty chair.
Sitting on potty chair should repeat few times a day and make sure child has some new toy to play with while sitting there and after sitting is over, make sure to praise a little to make the child realize it is something very good he or she doing. Don’t get angry and if trying fails, remind child it is ok and you can try later.
If you notice that child needs to go by facial expression or your child notifying you, reaction must be quick. Stop whatever you are doing and run to the toilet. As ca hild growing, you can start using the potty that goes on top of the toilet. Remember to start girl teaching early to wipe properly from front to back which will prevent germs spreading. Children like to flush because it seems as something important to them, so let child do that and make all more fun. After everything is done, make sure child washed hands which will later become habitual.
For some children this goes easier if the potty chair looking as toy, colorful and fun to sit, while other children like to hear stories. The best way is to experiment and keep on trying. Make sure to repeat how that exciting is and now he is ‘big boy’ or a ‘big girl’ and using toilet same as big kids do.
